ANALYZE the commercial potential of university technology through this paid Summer internship. Participants have the opportunity of forming a startup around the technology after the internship.
LEARN the best practices for launching a new venture from I-Corps, a National Science Foundation (NSF) program designed to foster, grow, and nurture innovation ecosystems regionally and nationally. I-Corps mentors will guide you in exploring the potential of these technologies. Students will work in teams of two.
ADVANCE your analysis through proven steps for successful commercialization, such as customer discovery, market research, design thinking, licensing and intellectual property, technology development road-mapping, acquiring funding, and logistics.
ESTABLISH a "go" or "no-go" conclusion supported by evidence as to whether or not to move forward with commercializing the technology.
MAKE valuable connections by networking with industry experts and program leaders in the UMD and State of Maryland entrepreneurship and innovation ecosystems.
EARN $20/hr throughout your internship!
Eligibility
- Open to all current University of Maryland graduate students and post-docs
- This is a remote opportunity with opportunities to collaborate in person
- Demonstrated interest in technology entrepreneurship, early-stage startups, and/or STEM research
- Strong analytical skills and ability to think critically about complex problems
- Self-motivated and able to work independently, while also being a proactive team player
- Passionate about innovation and bringing research from academia to the market
- Prior experience in research, design thinking, customer discovery, or market analysis is preferred but not required
